ABOUT US
The Neuro-Stimulation & Imaging Modulation (NSIM) Lab,
affiliated with the Department of Neurosurgery at Yonsei University College of Medicine,
is a premier research community dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the brain and pioneering new frontiers
in the treatment of intractable neurological disorders.
By integrating focused ultrasound with advanced brain imaging, we strive to translate fundamental scientific discoveries into clinical innovations through a 'Bench-to-Bedside' approach.
Our lab specializes in the precise regulation of the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB),
a crucial structure for maintaining brain homeostasis. While the BBB protects the brain from harmful substances,
it also acts as a formidable barrier that prevents the delivery of essential therapeutic agents.
We have established a unique platform that utilizes Focused Ultrasound (FUS)
to non-invasively and reversibly open the BBB, dramatically enhancing drug permeability.
Beyond drug delivery, we investigate the microenvironmental changes induced by ultrasonic stimulation and the resulting mechanisms of neurogenesis, aiming to maximize the brain's innate capacity for self-repair.
Our lab is now expanding its horizons beyond the conventional treatment of diseases
toward next-generation Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology,
enabling direct communication between the brain and external systems.
Our vision is clear: to dissolve the boundaries between neuroscience and engineering,
reconnecting lives severed by disease through technology.
By combining the depth of basic science with the practical application of clinical medicine,
NSIM Lab will continue to maximize the potential of the human brain and design a new future
for the total management of neurological disorders.
